Patient Portal FAQ

Who can sign up for the Patient Portal?
Patients and their legal guardians can sign up for the Patient Portal in accordance with the terms and conditions of the website. Just tell your doctor you would like to enroll, and get started.

How do I sign up for the Patient Portal?
At the time of your appointment, you will need to provide the IEI with the following information:

• Photo ID
• First and last name
• Phone number
• A unique email address

(each family member must have a unique email account)

The information you provide is confidential and will be processed through our secure system. At that time you will be able to establish your account online.

Is there a charge for opening an account?
There is no charge. The service is complimentary to IEI patients.

Do I need special equipment to access the Patient Portal?
No. All you need is access to a computer with an internet connection and an email account that matches the one you provided to the IEI.

What should I do if I’m having difficulty resetting the password?
If you are having difficulty resetting the password, you can request the IEI to provide you a password reset link and token. Email
patientportal@ico.edu or call 312-949-7245. You will receive an email containing the password reset link in your account. You can reset the password using the link and the password reset token.

Can someone else log on to my account?
The system is secure. No one can access your account unless they have access to your username and password. You must always create a strong password with a combination of alphanumeric and special characters for your account. If anyone else tries to access your account with an incorrect username or password, the system will lock your account after four attempts.

Can I access my eyeglass prescription or contact lens prescription on within the Patient Portal?
Documents and prescriptions cannot be automatically uploaded to website; they need provider approval prior to upload. Send your provider a secure message from your Patient Portal account asking for your prescription. When your provider sends you an electronic copy of the prescription, you will receive an email notification indicating a document is available in the Inbox.

If I send a message to health care provider, when can I expect a reply?
You can expect to receive a response within four business days. Please note that the Patient Portal should not be used in urgent or emergency situations. For urgent matters, please call your the IEI directly at
